Why you shouldn’t block your outgoing Caller ID.

So, you think you’re pretty smart and doing yourself a favor by cold calling with the Caller ID on your phone blocked? Here’s why we believe you are hurting yourself.

Let me ask you a very simple question.  When you receive a phone call and you look at your caller ID and it says ‘Blocked’, who do you think is calling? I don’t know about you, but I simply do not answer any calls that show that the Caller ID is blocked. Most executives I’ve asked will tell you the same thing.

If you are also one that doesn’t believe in leaving voicemails, you will have just totally wasted the time it took to make most of those calls.  Not only will the target not have answered your call, but there is zero chance of them returning your call because they:

  1. Don’t know what you called about; and
  2. Wouldn’t know how to get back to you even if they did.

Now, let’s be honest, they still may not answer your call if they don’t recognize your name, but they will answer more of those that have a name displayed than blocked, and regardless of what you think about the task of appointment setting, it is a numbers game. Increasing your Conversation Ratio (Dials to Conversations) will cause you to make more money, have to make fewer calls, or both.

Bottom line is that you’re not doing yourself any favors by hiding your identity from the person you’re calling.  Unblock the block.
